Specialty Functional Materials
When the temperature exceeds 200 °C, when the solvent is acetone, when the label must shatter on removal — where conventional materials fail is where specialty materials begin.
Four material families for extreme conditions
High temperature: PI polyimide film operates from -70 °C to 320 °C and does not deform or char through PCB reflow soldering; aluminium base and metallized materials are used for nameplates and high-temperature equipment.
Flame retardant and halogen-free: flame-retardant grades of polyester, polyolefin and vinyl meet UL and the low-smoke halogen-free requirements of rail transit and power, and release no halogen gases when burned.
Functional surfaces: anti-static materials protect sensitive devices; frangible paper and film are used for tamper-evident seals; reflective and photoluminescent materials serve night and low-light inspection.
These materials are rarely used on their own; they are combined with die-cutting, printing and adhesive into functional parts — which is why we deliver them through the same chain as precision die-cutting.

Four extreme directions
High temperature
PI withstands 320 °C without deformation through reflow soldering; aluminium base suits high-temperature equipment nameplates.
Flame retardant, halogen-free
Meets UL and low-smoke halogen-free requirements for rail transit, power and data centres.
Anti-static
Controlled surface resistance protects PCBs and sensitive devices during processing.
Tamper-evident
Shatters on removal and cannot be reapplied; used for seals, warranty and tamper evidence.
Specialty material comparison

| Frangible paper / film | Frangible facestock + strong adhesive | -20 °C to 80 °C | Shatters on removal, tamper-evident | Seals, warranty, asset tamper evidence |
| Reflective / photoluminescent | Reflective film / phosphorescent film | -40 °C to 90 °C | Visible at night, no power needed | Power pole numbers, fire safety, walkways |
| High-temperature label THL | PET / PI + high-temperature adhesive | 150 °C to 300 °C | Oven and chemical resistant | Engine bays, industrial stoving |
Specialty materials are usually delivered together with die-cutting and printing; where UL or flame-retardant classes are involved, please provide the specific standard and we will submit samples for testing or supply existing reports.

Frequently asked questions
How many reflow cycles can a PI label take?
Standard PI material withstands multiple passes of a typical lead-free reflow profile (peak around 260 °C); the number depends on the oven profile and dwell time, so we recommend validation against your process.
How is the flame-retardant class confirmed?
We can provide UL and flame-retardant test reports for existing materials; if a specific class or standard is required, please provide the standard number and we will assess submitting samples for testing.
Can tamper-evident labels be custom printed?
Yes. Frangible materials support pre-printed text, barcodes and 2D codes, but printing is limited by the frangible facestock, so please confirm with a sample first.
Not sure which material to use?
Tell us the substrate, service temperature, print method and service life, and a materials engineer will propose a combination, with free samples and print validation.
