Thermal Transfer Ribbons

Whether a label survives an alcohol wipe depends half on the ribbon. BRL cryogenic resin ribbons are validated with LAB facestocks, and the BR series covers general-purpose facestocks.

RIBBON

The print layer is the other half of the label

Print the same cryogenic label with a general-purpose wax ribbon and the print may come off in a single piece after liquid nitrogen; switch to a matched resin ribbon and the same facestock can withstand repeated freeze-thaw and alcohol wiping.

The BRL series is designed for cryogenic labels: the resin coating stays flexible at low temperature and adheres more strongly to polyester and nylon cloth surfaces; the BR100/BR400 series cover coated paper, synthetic paper and industrial identification.

We recommend validating ribbon and label as one batch: send samples first, test against your freeze-thaw and wiping workflow, and then fix the model.

PERFORMANCE

Three metrics determine print life

Low-temperature adhesion

The resin coating does not become brittle after returning from -196 °C; text and barcode edges remain intact.

Solvent resistance

Still readable after wiping with alcohol, isopropanol and common disinfectants.

Printer compatibility

Compatible with mainstream BRADY, CAB and Zebra models; print darkness is adjusted per device.

BR400Mixed base / resinPolyester, synthetic paper, vinylIndustrial identification, cables, asset tags

Ribbon width is selected according to the label and printer model; for cryogenic applications we recommend a single batch number per roll to avoid batch variation affecting print darkness.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do cryogenic labels always need a resin ribbon?

For liquid nitrogen and ultra-low temperature applications we recommend BRL cryogenic resin ribbons; for routine refrigeration above -40 °C, BR400 mixed base is usually sufficient, subject to sample testing.

How should print darkness be set?

Default darkness differs between printer models. We supply recommended parameters with samples, and you can also fine-tune after measuring barcode grade (ANSI).
